Traffic circles rule Seattle. However, since you
can't put one at every intersection sometimes you have to
devise other ways to slow down neighborhood traffic. While
stop signs, yield signs, traffic lights, and on and on have
all proved successful throughout the country, in Seattle,
we do things a little differently. Instead of your typical
traffic diversionary tactics, we paint ladybugs in the middle
of the street, call it art, and get the city to pay for it.
Oh, yeah!
Atop the hill where Burke Street meets 49th Street
in the Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle, sits a gloriously
painted ladybug smack dab in the middle of street. Painted
in 2006 by locals, the design sneaks up on you out of nowhere.
"Charming,"curious," and "happy-go-lucky"
are but a few words that come to mind when first encountering
Miss Bug, but when you see it for yourself surely you will
think of a few more of your own.
