At first blush, there is much to
enjoy about Greenwood's Teriyaki Wok. The interior
is small yet inviting, the prices very reasonable, and
the service friendly and genuine. Unfortunately, the #1
chicken teriyaki is decidely sub-par. Let's review...
The mainly dark meat chicken is greasy,
a bit chewy, and only lightly grilled. The sauce is gloppy,
has too much ginger, and does little to ehance the meal.
The salad is typical iceberg lettuce and features a run-of-the-mill
honey mustard. And the rice, the best part of the meal,
is fluffy and tasty.
As for the portions, the rice takes
up the majority of the container, a definite faux pas.
Sure, there is an additional carton for the salad, but
when it's all iceberg lettuce, who cares?
The price,
$5.50 plus tax is on the low end, a definite plus. Unfortunately,
Teriyaki Wok tacks on an additional $.25 for
take away. What!? Their sign claims the addtional $.25
is because of the city's mandate that all restaurants
use recyclable containers. That is probably true, but
when there is no additional teriyaki sauce on the tables
and not a drop of Siracha sauce anywhere to be found,
it definitely appears Teriyaki Wok is skimping.
Last but not least, there is a noticeably
uncomfortable smell that persists in the car for some
time after transporting Teriyaki Wok's chicken
teriyaki. It's not enough to call in the fumigation team,
but it certainly is alarming to the olfactories.
Do the above descriptions make the
Teriyaki Wok experience seem like a good one?
Well, they shouldn't because it wasn't. It wasn't awful,
but Teriyaki Wok's #1 isn't something I'd be
interested in having again.
Bottom line: I should have ordered
the Mongolian Beef. Oh well.
