Weeks 01 & 02
Wrap-Up
September 23 & September 30, 2008
New faces and old antics
defined Sunset Forever’s
return to the lanes during the first two weeks of Underdog
Sports’ Tuesday Night Big Turkey Bowling. We
won some, we lost some, and when the smoke cleared the shot
glasses were empty and our hopes for an eventual team championship
a definite possibility.
Imperial Lanes were lit
up in Week 01. New team member, Helen
Garcia flashed her winning smile while contemplating
her upcoming nuptials, all the while eating the opposition
alive. Her second game 118 put all other teams on notice:
our ladies are The Real Deal.
And speaking of super ladies,
perennial team favorite, Rachel Chen
fought her way through Week 01 ball selection technical
difficulties and muscled out a powerful 185 in her second
game whipping the pants off nearly everyone in the place.
Everyone, that is, except our very own Joey
Johnson.
Johnson
had the magic touch in Week 01, rolling a 186/177 series
that had our jaws agape and our opponents soiling their
pants. And soiled pants is exactly what Scott
Muoio brought to the table, falling into an abyss
of lousing bowling not seen since Barack
Obama’s 36 this past
summer. At least Sarah Palin's not his running mate. But
I digress...
After the astounding Week
01 sweep, Week 02 found the team tasting reality. The Jack
Daniels shots came in threes crippling our usually
hearty Sunset Forever players
while league leaders, Balls of Fury
maintained focus and accurate rolling. Still, Sunset
Forever managed to steal the first game from the
mighty Balls salvaging a bit
of dignity in an otherwise disappointing performance.
Even with the defeat, Week
02 was not without its highlights. Newcomer Emma
Timmins-Schiffman continued to raise her average
in both pin count and the number of times she sat on Johnson’s
lap. Poop-obsessed Angela hammered
down an impressive first game 120 before the nachos and
indigestion had their way with her. Rachel
emerged with a new sense of determined leadership
and a team leading 159 two-week average.
Randy remained his rock-solid self, enchanting our
opponents with both his cordial charisma and his stunning
ball spin. Johnson worked his
average into the 150s without resorting to alcohol for his
inspiration. Last and definitely least, Muoio
set a record of his own: his bar tab was higher than
either one of his scores.
In all, Weeks 01 and 02
were a good start to the season. Now it’s time to
GET SERIOUS! The ass-kickings
must resume immediately!!!
