For quite some time
I have wondered why Stephen Colbert's
Americone Dream is
so prevalent in Seattle supermarkets. "Maybe it's
Seattle's liberal leanings," I surmised. "Perhaps
Comedy Central put up some fat marketing bucks,"
I imagined. "Or could this be just another example
of Seattle being backwards?" The answer was an enormous
surprise. Quite simply, Americone
Dream is one of the best ice creams I have ever
tasted.
So why is Americone
Dream so good? Part of the
reason is that this flavor has the 'wow' factor. I don't
mean a 'wow' description- vanilla ice cream, a caramel
swirl, and fudge covered waffle cone pieces sounds pedestrian.
I mean one taste and I want to eat the entire pint. Simple
but incredibly delicious each element comes together to
form a creamy slice of Heaven. The vanilla base is outstanding.
The caramel swirl melts in your mouth. And the fudge covered
waffle cone pieces add just the right crunchy counterpount
to make this flavor perfect simplicity.
