Bikini Baristas

How about a little wiggle with your grande latte?

Everyone knows that Seattle is famous for its coffee, and for good reason. Starbucks was founded and continues to have its base of operations in Seattle. Seattle’s Best Coffee, Tully’s, and numerous other small coffee shops dominate the city’s landscape. And of course, a cool, wet climate 9 months out of the year ensures coffee is the ideal beverage to get Seattle’s inhabitants through the day. But while these facts seem to tell the whole coffee story, there is a dirty little secret just below the surface that is essential to completing the Seattle coffee picture.

You see, it is Seattle’s immense number of tiny coffee shacks that truly show the city’s mania for the little brown beans. And it is within some of these miniature sheds where the real espresso adrenaline rush lies: the bikini barista.

You read that right: bikini baristas - half naked girls that grind your beans, top your vente with heavy cream, and perhaps give you a little wiggle as you drive through. Loyal patrons can’t get enough. The media finds them newsworthy gold. Cranky neighbors think they cross the line and are vulgar displays of society’s decline. As for me, I don’t see anything wrong with a little flesh in the morning – just keep it PG-13.

But what about a lady’s needs? Well, equal opportunity advocates will be happy to know that there is indeed something for the ladies (or gents) on Capitol Hill: Barista Boyz. That’s right, scantily clad men serving your morning necessity piping hot. But don’t worry about overheating. Fireman Friday’s will be just the thing to cool you down.
