Penguins on The March
August 09, 2009

Factoid #28

by Scott Muoio

Small but Mighty!

To celebrate the summer season and welcome a new penguin exhibit to The Woodland Park Zoo, the City of Seattle has commissioned sixty-two plaster penguins to be decorated by artists across the city and displayed throughout. Sprinkled in Greenwood, Wallingford, and Fremont the adorable little lads can be found inside stores or occasionally tethered to their front entrances.

Similar to the Pigs On Parade of 2001 and 2007, and the Nutcrackers of 2007 this parade of individually designed works is fun, festive, and for sale! Sixty-two statues in all cover the gamut from a French waiter to a space penguin, the Penguinator to a Jimi Hendrix penguin masterpiece, and on and on. Check out all the pics we've captured below.
