Just as bad as the band

Dave Matthews Band
Magic Brownies

A blurred idea of greatness way off the mark

Ben and Jerry’s Magic Brownies is a case of bad chemistry. Black raspberry ice cream, sweet cream ice cream, and fudgy brownies seem like an interesting and potentially tasty concoction. But the result is gravely disappointing. Be warned: Magic Brownies is not a B & J milestone of good taste.

The major fault with Magic Brownies is the decidedly blasé black raspberry ice cream which overpowers everything else in the pint. You would think after dozens and dozens of flavor experiments B and J would wise up to the fact that merely mixing and swirling and shoving a bunch of random tastes into a small container does not result in a taste sensation. Unfortunately, Magic Brownies proves that they have not.

Indeed, more often than not B & J’s experiments succumb to the over-do-it syndrome resulting in unabashed disappointment. With this one, which features the Dave Matthews Band branding, a personal pet peeve of mine, the result is obvious: an ice cream flavor rewardingly easy to avoid and satisfying to forget all together.
